RESOURCES FOR PROSPECTIVE LEADERS

An Alakaʻi is a student who supports a course that they have successfully completed in the past. Great Alakaʻi are able to clearly explain or demonstrate various concepts from the course material to students of diverse backgrounds and abilities. These leaders facilitate small group discussion and learning activities. In addition, these leaders meet one-on-one with students to discuss progress, set and reach goals, and connect to resources. Great Alakaʻi are understanding, dependable, and passionate about helping other students succeed.

IMPORTANT DUTIES:

Attend the lecture each time the class meets (approximately 2.5 hours/week)

Facilitate hour-long group study sessions (approximately 2-3/week)

Offer hour-long coaching sessions (approximately 2-3/week)

Submit session plans to the SE Team for each study session

Track attendance of students in study and coaching sessions using Google Sheets

Attend mandatory trainings and campus events:

Student Employee Training

Pre Semester Training
-
In-Semester Training (twice a month)

Mid Semester Meeting (if scheduled)

End of Semester Meeting

Distribute programmatic surveys to students:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
2.0 cumulative GPA
-
Completion of 12+ college credits
-
Enrolled for 6+ credits in the UH system for the semester of work
-
"B" grade in the course to be covered or equivalent course
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

3.0+ cumulative GPA
-

​Instructor recommendation
-
Experience working with college students
-
Knowledge of WCC campus resources
